Criminal Case Initiated on Khorenatsi Street Riots, Several Arrested

The Investigative Committee has received reports from the Police regarding the July 20 evening riots.

According to preliminary investigation, around 22:15 on July 20, several protesters carried out public disturbance in forms of destroying property, violence against Police officers of Yerevan Police Department, which endangered public security. A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigative Department of Yerevan based on Article 225 point 2 of the Criminal Code.

An investigative task force has been formed. The President of the Investigative Committee instructed the task force to carry out a comprehensive, full and objective investigation. Urgent investigative and search operations are underway to determine circumstances of the incident and the circle of participants.

Available footages are being examined. In suspicion of direct involvement in the mass disturbances 28 people were detained as of 08:00 July 21. 16 out of the 28 detained have been arrested. Investigation continues.
