Armenia’s Debt to Gazprom Comprises USD 33.8mln, not USD 52.3mln: Official Clarification

The Armenian government has never considered and isn’t planning to consider the option of selling the Yerevan TPP for paying off the debt to Gazprom Armenia. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources commented on the issue.

The Ministry said the recent reports on the possible sale of the Yerevan TPP are false, and the debts of natural gas of the TPP are not new at all. The Ministry’s announcement further reads that the debt has been presented in detail back in May 12 in the loan agreement between the Government and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The IBRD provided a 30 million USD loan, and a part of this loan would be directed for partial payment of the debt. In recent months a significant part of the debt has been paid.

Currently the debt comprises 33,8 million USD not 52,3. The rest of the debt will be paid soon
