I was crying, asking for help, I wished anybody hear me: Syrian Armenian Gohar Galstyan on disasters of war

“For years people of Aleppo didn’t suffer any hardship, particularly the Armenians had the authority and honor in that country. The Armenian had respect, church, schools and clubs there. Recent six years, situation in the city have worsened, Armenians suffered hard days,” husbands Zhan and Gohar Galstyans from Syria, who arrived in Yerevan a week ago, told at today’s press conference.

They told about the needs of Armenians in Syria as a result of military operations, as well as issues they come across with.

“It’s been 6 years that there is no electricity in Aleppo, we had no water for months, we were digging wells to drink water. We faced much hardship, however, early in the morning of September 30 the missiles terribly bombed the cities. My children were in the school. We were in fear, my husband safely brought them home. Already at midday the missile destroyed my house, I couldn’t even find clothes, everything was in fire. My husband and children were under the ruins. The stone was so heavy, that I couldn’t help my husband, I was crying, asking for help, I wished that anyone could hear me,” Gohar Galstyan said.

Gohar Galstyan tells that in Aleppo they had work and lived a good life. And here the husbands are seeking for work,

“I have worked as a nurse for many years, and my husband—as a security guard. After leaving Aleppo a philanthropist helped us to move to Armenia, whom we’re greatly thankful. He rented an apartment for our family in Yerevan for six months. Unfortunately, we can’t find a job and we don’t know how to cover our expenses.”
