In 1918, a woman named Aurora found herself in the middle of the San Gabriel Mountains. Elaborate sets had been built around her. Thousands of extras were lined up in harrowing scenes of deportation. Naked women lay crucified on crosses. Turkish soldiers in fake mustaches raised their rifles.
