Living in tales

“When they speak about consolidation, I am asking how and what is the ideology that may consolidate us. Consolidation cannot be around a person. There has been consolidation in our society but around a party leader and for the sake of changing the power. There have been no other ideologies in Armenia since 1996,” says political scientist Manvel Sargsyan concerning the attempt of non-government powers to unite and form cohesive opposition.

Sargsyan believes the non-government powers do not develop a common goal that mayunite them. “Have you seen any word about it in Tsarukyan’s speech? The process of uniting should start after introducing a goal or ideology that can unite people. He said that there are no guarantees for investment in the country,” said Manvel Sargsyan and asked if Tsarukyan had spoken anything about justice and rule of law, “Everything starts from justice: if there is justice, there are investment, economic development. If there is no justice, there is no protection of property rights and investments.

This means that consolidation processes are happening around one person but not ideology. If a person is the guarantor, and for example, if they claim that the volume of investment has slumped by 40 per cent only because the head of the government is not competent, it does not mean that if the head of the government is replaced the problem will be solved. We are still living in such tales, and now we have to understand that the primary goal in our country should be justice.”
