Syria should Immediately Carry out Land Operations: Expert on Arabic Studies

To soothe the situation in Syria land operations are necessary to implement by the international community. Sargis Grigoryan, expert on Arabic studies told about this.

“At this stage, one of the crucial steps by the international community will be implementation of systemized land operations in Syria against terrorist groups. And it should be implemented as soon as possible. It’d be better if operations launched from Aleppo, which is separated into segments, and each of which is under the control of different groups,” Sargis Grigoryan said.

Aleppo is a crucial city for Armenia and it people as well. As our compatriots live there. What should the Republic of Armenia do? In response to this question, Sargis Grigoryan stated, besides raising the issue of security of Armenians in international platforms, it’s also worth speaking of implementation of land operations in Syria as well.

“Armenia may speak of this, and propose options to calm down the situation. It’d be a proper step, if those land operations were implemented together with the Governmental forces, timely putting aside the issue of eliminating them,” the expert said.

According to Sargis Grigoryan, reasons of fragile ceasefire collapse are numerous,

“I formerly said there is no ceasefire here. Of course, there were some groupings, which announced on putting down the weapons and joining the ceasefire, however, basically, these groupings didn’t have much impact in the country. And influential groups went on fighting.”

As for the new phase of activation of military operations in Syria, the expert mentioned, one of the reasons is failed negotiations in Geneva, which powers, financed by Turkey and Saudi Arabia, have left.
