President of Armenia Receives Members of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council

The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on May 20 received the members of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan who arrived in Armenia to participate in the regular session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, press service of the Presidential Administration informed 168.am.

The President welcomed the guests in Yerevan. Stressing that the Intergovernmental Council session is being held for the first time in Armenia, Serzh Sarsyan expressed hope that it will be productive. “We all joined the Eurasian Economic Union based on our economical interests and the interests of our citizens. It is very important for the adopted decisions to be tangible for business environment, for the customer of buying every goods and services. To achieve that goal, I think that the elimination of barriers, the technical barriers is one of the most important issues which hinder free movement of goods and services with such means reducing the economical productivity from the integration processes”, the President stated.

Serzh Sargsyan said he is aware of how many issues are involved in the session agenda and asked Prime Minister of Kazakhstan (2016 chairing country of the Council) Karim Massimov to present whether there is a general perception over the existing issues of the agenda, and what results are being expected from this meeting.

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan expressed gratitude on behalf of his partners for providing warm reception and comfortable conditions for the preparation works and holding of the Intergovernmental Council session. “Today is a working day for us during which we plan to discuss further development issues of the Eurasian Economic Union. On the eve of the Presidents’ meeting we will try to discuss and remove the majority of issues from the agenda in order to present great strategic issues from the viewpoint of further development in the high-level discussion”, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan stated.

He informed that numerous issues will be discussed during the meetings with both narrow and extended formats in this session at the Prime Ministerial level, and the members of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will try to give solutions to those issue during the discussions.

During the meeting Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan presented the cooperation opportunities with the EAEU integration other units, as well as the development prospects of the relations with individual states.

From the perspective of the further development of the economies of the EAEU member states, the President of Armenia stressed the importance of the security dimension and in this context presented the recent developments over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
