U.S. Department of State on Current Situation in Yerevan

U.S. Department of State issued a statement on ongoing situation in Yerevan, which refers to putting down of weapons by “Sasna Tsrer” armed group, violence against reporters.

The statement particularly reads, “We are relieved that confrontation of Erebuni police station is over.

We repeat, that use of force to reach political changes in Armenia is unacceptable.

On July 30 U.S. Embassy in Yerevan issued a statement, expressing deep concern on the shocking images and credible reports of violence and excessive use of force by the police to disperse protestors and targeting journalists and their equipment during the night of July 29-30.

We welcome that Armenia’s Government assumed investigation of the reports. We’ll attentively follow the development of that investigation.

We call on the Government to apply equal and just attitude within the law on people participating in confrontation of the police station building.”
