Armenia is in the Focus of Redistribution of Spheres of Influence

Interview with Harutyun Mesrobyan, management expert.

Mr.Mesrobyan, the Government approved a draft bill, pursuant which making use of customs broker service won’t be mandatory. How will this improve business environment?

If in a system, where there are oligarchs, no matter what you’ll do, fatty pieces will belong to them, let it be a customs broker, or anyone else.

What’s your assessment to RF president Vladimir Putin’s congratulations on Armenia’s 10% GDP growth following its membership to EEU?

It’s nonsense, we should obviously observe economy growth. Some stages of economy development may be available when we don’t feel those numbers. However, for 25 years touching upon what a good economy we have, and be among the states of last class, means we shouldn’t pay attention to that growth.

While Putin was congratulating Serzh Sargsyan, here PM Hovik Abrahamyan stated that despite economic activity growth, living standards of the citizens won’t improve. Why does economy grow and living standards won’t improve?

Neither economy, nor living standards record any growth. Any such statement yet doesn’t mean that it’s so in life. We face deadly challenges, and they only write numbers.

What do you mean by saying “deadly challenges”?

In the whole world, and moreover, in our region, redistribution of spheres of influence has been launched, and naturally, it leads to political tectonic shifts, and Armenia is in the focus of redistribution of those spheres of influence. Until now the country won’t feel on itself that such a threat exists. And Armenia is governed, as usual, under the moment, and this means, that those challenges will be deadly for us.

Who redistributes spheres of influence—the USA, Russia…?

Both the leading powers and countries of the region—Turkey, Iran. And we don’t have visible strategy regarding external activity. I’m not speaking of the simple phenomenon, which is existent: in any way they intend to shake Armenia, as they either don’t absolutely need Armenia in the region, or need obedient Armenia, I mean obedient to all leading powers. When they say Armenia plays only Russia’s game, it’s not so, Armenia attempts to play the game of everyone and be balanced in the region. This means, we are facing a deadly threat, that not having foreign policy strategy, sooner or later we should suffer deadly blows.
