The Government plans at least to triple the number of tourists

RA Government plans targeted packaging of tourism results and service, based on contemporary developments in the field of tourism. Besides, purpose of the executive is raising recognition of Armenia as an attractive country for tourism though implementation of active marketing policy in targeted tourism markets. This is included in Government’s program, which has been submitted to the National Assembly.

In the period of the forthcoming six months the Government plans to invest tourism service qualification criteria to improve the quality of tourism services and infrastructures, pilot programs on village tourism will be launched in 60 communities, and on the basis of results of one year national program on village tourism development will be implemented. In the mentioned period competitions will be held to make at least 5 caves a tourist attraction, “Pilgrimage to the first Christian nation” strategy will be developed.

In 2017 the Government will assist in new directions of tourism with great potential (mountain climbing, cycling, extremal tourism, health tourism, religious, wine and etc.) of already exiting separate initiatives and a program will be developed pursing the purpose to at least triple the number of tourists in the period of the forthcoming 5 years.

It’s planned to expand the list of the countries with free visa regime, making at least 20 historical monuments and special territories as tourist attractions.
