Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Georgia power transmission lines to be commissioned in 2019: Serzh Sargsyan

The energy sector – being one of the important branches of Armenia’s economy – has documented significant achievements in recent years. Ongoing works in the energy sector are aimed at raising the level of Armenia’s energy security and provision of reliable and smooth services, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said in opening remarks at the “Energy Week 2017” event in Yerevan on January 25.

The President mentioned high-voltage substations of systematic significance have been almost completely modernized by the assistance of international organizations. “In addition, continuous and consistent works are carried out in this sector in the direction of creating new capacities, building new power transmission lines and introducing new technologies,” President Sargsyan said.

President Sargsyan added that in the energy sector Armenia has close cooperation with Iran and Georgia in the region.

The Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Georgia power transmission lines will be commissioned in 2019, which will raise Armenia’s energy system to an entirely new level. The abovementioned programs will enable electricity transits, seasonal mutual supplies and exchanges, as well as other commercial transactions,” Serzh Sargsyan said.

Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia – as a EEU member state – can serve as a unique bridge between Iran and the EEU. According to the President, this creates possibilities for realization of numerous investment programs, both from the private sector and local.
