Citizen’s Day: Armenian government wants new public holiday honoring Velvet Revolution
The March 21 Cabinet meeting agenda includes a bill on amending the law on public holidays of Armenia to create a new holiday – the Day of Citizen of Republic of Armenia.
If passed, the Citizen’s Day will be celebrated on the last Saturday of April.
The purpose of the new holiday is to honor the “unprecedented political situation” that took place in April of 2018 – the mass peaceful protests that eventually became known as the Armenian Velvet Revolution.
