Robert Kocharyan: “In the future, people will be severely subjected to liability for making this case up”

Today, the Criminal Court of Appeal of Armenia, under the chairmanship of Judge Armen Danielyan, began to examine the appeals that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the attorneys of the injured party have filed against the release of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan from custody, termination of the case and forwarding of the case to the Constitutional Court.

Hayk Alumyan, one of the attorneys of Robert Kocharyan, filed a motion for the self-recusal of Armen Danielyan and was joined by the attorneys of Yuri Khachaturov and Seyran Ohanyan.

Judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal Armen Danielyan rendered a decision to reject the motion for his self-recusal.

After the trial resumed, Seda Safaryan, representative of the injured party in the case of the events of March 1, 2008, also filed a motion to the judge for self-recusal. While filing her motion, attorney Safaryan declared that she and the injured party are not certain about the impartiality of Judge Danielyan.

The attorneys of Robert Kocharyan and Robert Kocharyan himself also joined the motion of Seda Safaryan, but didn’t agree with the factual circumstances that were presented, and Robert Kocharyan personally urged the judge to recuse himself.

“Don’t examine this case, something smells fishy. This criminal case is completely phony, and in the future, people will be severely subjected to liability for making this case up,” Kocharyan said.
