Turkey ‘will demand its share’ for Azerbaijan’s gains in Karabakh war – political analyst

Turkey, as a major investor in Azerbaijan, will definitely demand its share from that country for the large-scale assistance offered during the second war against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), a Yerevan-based political analyst said today, warning of the possible impact on the regional context.

At a public forum entitled Armenia and Turkey in the South Caucasus: Realities and Risks, Edgar Elbakyan called special attention to Turkey’s increasing military presence in Azerbaijan. “It doesn’t make sense to prove after the war that Turkey also has a military presence in Azerbaijan,” he emphasized.

Meantime he highlighted the reported 14% increase in the Turkish share in Azerbaijan’s 2019 turnover (compared to 2012-2014).

“Turkey is Azerbaijan’s second trade partner in both exports and imports. It is the second investor after Great Britain. But here we deal with British Petroleum, which has investments in the oil and gas sectors. So if we put it aside, Turkey will turn out the first major investor in Azerbaijan,” Elbakyan said
