Smile gentlemen, you are being humiliated
While the Armenian government is trying to shun the dilemma between EU and the Eurasian Union, by doing everything not to make Russia mad, the latter plays more open cards with Armenia without spare formalities. The best example of that was yesterday’s statement of the Secretary-General of the Collective Security Pact Nikolay Bordyuzha, who claimed that Russia does a lot for Armenia. Bordyuzha made this statement by answering a question whether Russia had informed Armenia as its strategic partner that it was going to sell military munitions to Azerbaijan worth a billion USD.
Prior to that Bordyuzha had managed to make another open statement about the sale of armaments to Azerbaijan. “This is a business. This is a market. This is Russia’s economy.” “The Russian Federation is one of the major weapon producers in the word. Russia sells weapon to dozens of states, including the states of the CSP,” he said. And this is happening when the Armenian government is day and night lauding and complimenting the partnership and strategic relations with Russia. In the meantime Russia is saying that its business interests are more important than the relations with Armenia.
With the same logic Russia could have sold the energy objects of Armenia to Azerbaijan for the sake of business expediency. In these conditions, the first reaction and response of Armenia should have been demanding from Russia to sell the gas at a cheaper price in lieu of allowing to deploy Russian military bases in Armenia. On the other hand, it would make no sense to discuss how Armenia would respond to the slaps of Russia because first of all there has to be a political will.
The impression is that the Armenian authorities are in masochistic and self-inflicting conditions with Russia. And it is no accident that Bordyuzha was making this humiliating and degrading statement in front of Armenian National Security Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan’s widening smile. The more the Russians humiliate us the more pleasure we have.
