Union of Journalists of Armenia makes call to the media
On the morning of September 27, 2020, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan launched an attack against Artsakh (there were air strikes and missile strikes along almost the entire length of the border, peaceful settlements in the rear were targeted, including the capital Stepanakert).
Unfortunately, there are already victims and injured parties. Both Artsakh and Armenia have declared martial law and general mobilization.
As always, alongside its military operations, Azerbaijan is also waging a war in the information field with the same aggression by using all possible tools. In these conditions, it is extremely important for Armenian media to be alert and precautious in order to not give in to the temptation of spreading suspected and unverified information and only release official information.
This is important in order to ensure information security, and especially to make sure families with sons serving in the army do not panic and do not feel stressful.
The Union of Journalists of Armenia calls on all media outlets, regardless of their political preferences and affiliation, to unconditionally act in observance of all the principles of supremacy of state security and professional ethics.
Besides victories on the battlefield, what is also important is victory in information warfare because it provides the opportunity to also enshrine military victories in the diplomatic arena in the future.
We call on performing our share of the mission in this war with honor and performing the mission of protecting the rear of our armed forces professionally.
We call on all of our colleagues working on the line of contact to be maximally careful and definitely reach agreements with the press services of all the relevant institutions of Artsakh before taking any action.
As a rule, during a war, hackers actively hack Armenian websites. Thus, we call on the editors and coordinators of all of our news websites to consult with field specialists and make sure their websites are safer.
