Enclosed Spaces or Urban Environment and Geometric, Abstract Installations in “15 Points of View“ by Felice Varini

Opening of the exhibition “15 Points of View“ (“Quinze points de vue”) of the Swiss artist Felice Varini will be launched at “Hay Art” Cultural Centre in the period of May 3-13, which was detailed at today’s press conference by Lukas Gasser, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Armenia, Sona Andreasyan, member of “Dialogue of Cultures” organization council and Felice Varini, French-Swiss artist.

Lukas Gasser, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Armenia said,

“I’m glad that this exhibition of the well-known artist Felice Varini, will be launched within Francophonie cultural events, especially, when Switzerland is multi-language country, and French is one of the official languages of our state. This year we have focused on visual arts, in particular—painting, architecture, urbanism, which will be concluded by “15 Points of View“ (“Quinze points de vue”). Felice Varini has a unique style, as instead of canvases, he chooses to paint on architectural constructions, making them extremely attractive and original.”

“15 Points of View“ is a photo-exhibition, which, in fact aren’t mine. They were taken by professional photographers, based on my 15 works, taken in different places. These photos are a result of lasting and assiduous work of 20-25 years, for which space, architecture and light have been used, anticipating active glance of the viewer. Photos are taken from a certain focus, when you look fixed from any focus, you have the chance to go plunge into the picture. It’s enough to move the focus, and you’ll edify quite a different blasting view, torn into pieces.”

Sona Andreasyan, speaker of the press conference, told one of the chief purposes of “Dialogue of Cultures” is raising awareness not only of Armenian artists abroad, but informing about them in Armenia as well, “For this very reason Felice Varini is here, and his exhibition includes three events in a row, which will take place in the period of May 2-4 in “Tumo” Center for Creative Technologies and in “Mirozyan” library.”

Felice Varini (b. 1952) has been exploring architectural space with art works for over twenty years. His sensitive interventions into those spaces have fascinated observers all over the world, as his work turns seeing into a real experience.

Varini takes enclosed spaces or the urban environment and arranges geometric, abstract installations in them. Those formal organizations might be not comprehensible at first glance. But, suddenly, they concentrate the viewers’ glance at a single point, the “point of view”, exploring the features of the specific architectural building.

Note, opening of the exhibition will be launched in “Hay Art” Center, on May 3, at 6pm.
