You Proved that Jirair Sefilian’s Arrest is Justified: David Shahnazaryan Calls on to Lay down the Arms

David Shahnazaryan, Senior Analyst at Regional Studies Center, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (1992-1995), former Head of National Security Service (1994-1995), reflecting to operations initiated by armed members of  Founding Parliament and “Sasna Tsrer” early this morning , calling on members Pavel Manukyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and others to lay down the arms and surrender to the law enforcement.

“For the time being the main purpose is to avoid bloodshed and the negotiated settlement. So far, I refrained making political comments, considering that any political commentary could further aggravate the situation. But now the situation seems to be more complicated. I am calling those who have occupied the district police headquarters: Pavel Manukyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and others. Your actions endanger not only the authorities of Republic of Armenia, but also our statehood and our nation. You proved that Jirair Sefilian’s arrest is grounded.

Despite the attitude towards the authorities you don’t and won’t have public support. I call on laying down the arms and surrender to the law enforcement. And maybe then our society will somehow soften its attitude towards you and the court will take it into consideration.

Otherwise you and personally Jirair Sefilian will be responsible for the bloodshed. I am sure that this call is supported by the overwhelming majority of our society and your relatives,” David Shahnazaryan told aravot.am and 168.am.
