Why did the Situation Escalate on Khorenatsi Street?—Injured among the Police and the Demonstrators
At this moment the situation is rather tense before the Patrol-Guard Service Regiment building. To support members of “Sasna Tsrer” armed group, citizens were claiming from the Police to allow them pass food to the people inside the building through a proxy. The citizens claimed to accelerate the decision demanding to give answer at that very moment. They were claiming, that the Police gave an immediate reply, otherwise, if there is tension, they won’t bear any responsibility.
As no reply was heard from the Police, the citizens started to throw stones to the direction of the policemen. Samvel Hovhannisyan, RA Deputy Police Chief, came and called the demonstrators to be tolerant, not to take any actions, not to throw stones, otherwise they’ll implement their measures. He stated, that a stone was thrown and a policeman was injured, if again it’s recorded, they will “take all the measures.”
The citizens again threw stones and the Police moved forward applying tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
The Police was throwing explosives to the direction of the demonstrators. The latter were swearing and throwing different items towards the Police.
As a result of the clash representatives of the Police and demonstrators have been recorded injured. To the question of Radio “Liberty” whether there are injured among the Police, Samvel Hovhannisyan replied, that there are many.
NA MP Nikol Pashinyan arrived at the scene, who, from time to time attempts to calm down the situation.
