It’s not favorable for Turkish authorities to interfere with NK conflict: Cengiz Aktar

“Turkish incumbent authorities don’t intend to interfere with NK conflict,” Cengiz Aktar, Turkish political analyst, publicist, told 168.am, reflecting to Turkey’s possible interference with NK conflict settlement. These days RF FM Sergey Lavrov stated that Turkey may play a positive role regarding prevention of blockade in Karabakh conflict.

“The point, that Turkey may play a positive role by providing NK issue exit from the blockade, providing normal economic cooperation, is such an important factor, that we’re always taking into consideration,” Lavrov told reporters adding, “We have the feeling that progress in NK conflict settlement has importance regarding Armenia-Turkey relations settlement. This is life. We’ll see what may come out of this.” Cengiz Aktar said this statement should be observed against the background of Russia-Turkey rapprochement.

Thus, in his words, by this Russia attempts to show the authorities that there is no competition between Russia and Turkey in the region, moreover, Russia strives to involve Turkey in conflict settlement process, which confirms top position of mediators in the region. However, he considers, it’s worth remembering that this statement is made under the conditions of discordances around Syria between Russia and Turkey, which prompts that this proposal by Russia isn’t sincere.

“If there is intention for cooperation around the conflict, supposedly this could have been around Syrian conflict as well.

However, Russia even didn’t appear with a diplomatic statement, as it perfectly comprehends impracticability of that proposal, as well as the fact that conflicting Armenia will never go to that. Russia attempt to develop its game, however, not so masterly,” Turkish publicist said. The latter also commented on Turkey’s interest in interfering with NK conflict.

“Turkish incumbent authorities, although I always criticize them, didn’t intend to even interfere with NK conflict. If from time to time even Turkish authorities appear with anti-Armenian statements, it should be perceived from the perspective of Turkey-Azerbaijan relations.

Turkey has some dependency on Azerbaijan, deep relations are existent, which urge Turkey to express its support to Azerbaijan in NK process.

Another crucial reason is that Turkey has too many problems—conflicts, which don’t allow focusing on Azerbaijan’s issues, one of Turkey’s issues is unsettled relations with Armenia, worsened relations with the West, Kurdish issue, Syrian conflicts. All this doesn’t allow Turkey, even if intended, to interfere with Karabakh process or dictate steps to Azerbaijan, which exclusively come from Turkey’s interests,” Cengiz Aktar said.

The latter believes that Azerbaijan’s steps aren’t synchronized with Turkey. “It’s not favorable for Turkish incumbent authorities to interfere with NK conflict, and they perfectly realize it,” Turkish expert said.
