Armenia buys 6 “Smerch,” 6 Tos-1A “Solntsepyok” systems: Report

In the new report issued by Russian Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) for 2016 states that Armenia is buying 6 units of “Smerch” multiple launch rocket systems and 6 units of TOS-1A “Solntspyok” heavy flame thrower. Quantity of the systems to be purchased is introduced pursuant the assessment of the analytical center, Razminfo reported.

The report reads, that the systems ordered in 2015 Armenia will have in 2016. Already supplied “Smerch” systems have been demonstrated in the parade of September, and “Solntsepyok” systems haven’t been introduced yet.

It’s interesting enough, that the report doesn’t cover “Iskander-E” tactical ballistic missile system and “Buk” air defense missile system, which have been demonstrated during the same parade.

According to CAWAT Armenia will pay USD 60 million for “Smerch” and USD 40 million for “Solntsepyok” systems.

It’s also stated that in 2016 Armenia will have “Tigr” armored vehicles and “Igla-S” system (quantity is unknown).

It should be stated that Armenia purchases the abovementioned types of armaments by the USD 200 loan provided by Russia to Armenia in 2015.
