OSCE/ODIHR to carry out observation mission in Armenia

OSCE/ODIHR expert group has received an invitation from the Foreign Ministry of Armenia to carry out an observation mission during the upcoming parliamentary election in the country, Jan Petersen, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission, told reporters on February 21.

“We have received an invitation to work here from the Foreign Ministry of Armenia which was on behalf of the Armenian Government,” Petersen said.

He added that at the moment they will avoid giving preliminary assessment, stating that their previous proposals made to the Armenian leadership will be part of their working agenda. Petersen said they are well aware of the provisions of new Electoral Code of Armenia.

“Professional experts are working in our team, and we will be able to clearly assess the situation presented to us and the use of these norms,” he said. Concluding his speech, Jan Petersen stated that they arrived in Armenia with an open mind, they have the necessary number of experts in order to be able to give concrete assessment on the upcoming electoral process in Armenia. He onցe again emphasized that they will give assessments based on their methodology
