Disappointed and shocked
“EU is disappointed and shocked by Armenia’s unexpected turn, especially after giving up on the free trade area and association agreement negotiation that lasted over three years,” said policy analyst Amanda Paul, who represents the European Policy Centre of Brussels. She says Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union was made without any discussion with politicians, the civic society and the Armenian people. The policy analyst believes such decision is against the first and 114th article of the Constitution of the country as it shatters Armenia’s sovereignty. “In fact Sargsyan sold an agreement that would modernize and develop Armenia both politically and economically. He replaced it with another agreement, which will not give anything to Armenia and will increase Russia’s great influence on Armenia,” said Amanda Paul.
