End of the evil

The question “What is the lesson of Ukraine” is often heard in almost all post-soviet states. This matter should concern both the Armenian government and opposition. But we see that the Armenian politicians not only don’t answer any of those questions but also close their ears in order not to even hear the question. And it should first of all be the Armenian government that should learn lessons from Ukraine.

For the past two days this country has been showing the houses and mansions of former officials of Ukraine (president, prosecutor-general, etc.) These people have not only lived rich and luxurious life but also exceeded all the limits of pompousness by living in gold and diamond decorated houses. In the house of the prosecutor-general of Ukraine the opposition has found paintings, where he is portrayed in the image of Napoleon of Caesar and his wife was in the image of Ekaterina the Queen.

This means Ukraine was led by people, who were not only corrupt and with unlimited resources but also had some messed up psychological traits. They thought they were going to be in power forever just like the dictators and emperors. A lot of differences can be found between Armenia and Ukraine but these countries have had almost similar governments. It is hard to say who would win if a special competition of wealth was organized between Ukrainian and Armenian officials. But the most common thing between them is that they think they will have the power forever. Even if they formally step back from power they will still lead and own the country. During recent counted days the exact opposite was proven in Ukraine. Everybody show that even the most powerful officials cannot be saved by their bodyguards, money or lions. The global meaning of what happened in Ukraine is the word of the society – “it’s enough.”

And this happened not as much because the Ukrainian opposition was strong or that they had the support of the west but because of the will and actual desire of the people. The people followed their message of course at the expense of over 100 people. Regardless of anything, this was the struggle of the Ukrainian people, which let no space to the opposition to compromise. In this regard it also pertains the Armenian opposition, which on these days is busy trying to establish an ad hoc with the government, which has its own mission that Armenia never turns into Maidan.

Our political parties today have appeared in a role of a special buffer between the government and society. They are doing everything not to make the level of public discontent dangerous to the government. But both the government and opposition should remember the ballad of Hovhannes Tumanyan named the “end of evil.”
