Prime-Minister assures that the Ukrainian scenario will not happen in Armenia

Prime-Minister Tigran Sargsyan relates to the initiative of four parliamentary powers to impeach the government normally.

“It is the right of political powers; I have said several times that it is a tool for political competition that is accepted in many countries. Normally our opposition can use this tool too, and it is very normal that they possess such tool and whenever they need they have the right to use it,” said Prime-Minister Tigran Sargsyan to journalists in a meeting at the parliament yesterday.

In answer to a question whether those four political powers do not like the government’s work Tigran Sargsyan said, “Dear colleagues, do you recall any government or any democratic country in the world where there are no groups that do not like the work of their government? In politics there is always competition; otherwise it means that there is no opposition. I urge you all to relate it normally and as journalists treat it as something that every democratic country has. You can discuss those announcements objectively to see which statements are noteworthy from the political point of view, and which ones are not balanced.”

In answer to a question concerning unethical words used by the justice minister concerning the powers that want to initiate a demand for the government’s resignation, the PM urged everyone not to build debates on “emotional statements.” “Let’s consider that incident is gone, and let’s build up a correct debate,” said the Prime-Minister.

Commenting on the incidents in Ukraine the Prime-Minister said that he felt sorry for those events, and assured that similar processes would not happen in Armenia. In answer to question whether a similar scenario may not happen in Armenia and whether there is any possibility that the RPA may impeach president Serzh Sargsyan, the Prime-Minister said such things would not happen in Armenia. “I believe such comparison is not correct, and I think there are aggressive opposition representatives that would dream of such scenario. However, I believe it is not realistic,” he said.

The Prime-Minister brought several reasons why such scenario is not possible in Armenia, “First, the policy of our political team and leader is that we should always build bridges of dialogue with our opponents both in and out of the parliament. We are always advocating for opportunities of cooperation. Second, it is not a secret that we have economic challenges, and we discuss those challenges, and our doors are open for any cooperation initiative. This creates a positive environment as well. The third and most important thing is the attitude of our society to us. Our society has gone through such challenge, they have learned lessons, and all political parties and people have wisdom for such situations. The fourth factor is that the majority of our society supports our foreign policy direction. The majority of our society supports our president’s decision to integrate with the Customs Union,” said the Prime-Minister and excluded the possibility of the Ukrainian scenario in Armenia.

In answer to a comment that there are forecasts that the Customs Union will not be success as an economic large unit the PM said that the formation of that structure was already success and would reach its goal. “That institution is already reality and it has shown its efficiency. Furthermore, that institution is initiating another step toward cooperation, which will be the formation of Eurasia economic union. The heads of three states have made announcements about this, and they are moving toward a new phase of cooperation that will enable free flow of products, capital, labor and services between those countries,” said the Prime-Minister.
