It was a Successful Visit: NKR President’s Press Secretary on Sargsyan-Putin Meeting

“I assess the meeting sufficient, as it was an important one,” David Babayan, Press Secretary of the President of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, told 168.am today, touching upon yesterday’s Serzh Sargsyan-Vladimir Putin meeting.

There was a short reflection on Nagorno-Karabakh issue in official release on the meeting.” Mr. President, I would like to thank you personally for the efforts which Russia exercises for the resolution of the NK conflict. We continue to adhere to a peaceful settlement of the conflict,” President Serzh Sargsyan said.

To our question: in your opinion, what is the reason that there was no particular reflection to NKR issue? D.Babayan replied, only the fact that it was touched upon, is also very important, as the main stress was on peaceful settlement.

“It’s been stated that Russia is always for the peaceful settlement, maintenance of stability and peace, this is also a message, and they are important ideas, on which we should mainly be concentrated at. From this standpoint, I think, it was a successful visit, especially when Armenia’s days are being launched there and etc., i.e. rather comprehensive process is on,” the speaker mentioned.

During the meeting with V.Putin President S.Sargsyan said that Armenia completely supports Russia’s policy in Syria. To our question what it supposed, D.Babayan replied that time would show. “However, we should take into account the fact that Armenian population also suffers from terrorists in Syria, and, naturally, Armenia can’t be passive. But what kind of cooperation it’s going to be, time will show.”

To our clarifying question whether it was possible that Armenia was engaged in some active military actions, D.Babayan replied, “It’s too early speaking of it, but the fact that we have vital interests there, it’s definite as well, as we have a large Armenian community, residences and we can’t be indifferent to the destiny of Armenians in Syria.”
