Why did “Sasna Tsrer” Put down the Weapons?—Alek Yenigomshyan Clarifies
“If they succeeded to suspend organization of the people, issues are so deep, there is no other way out, people should struggle again and undoubtedly, inevitably reach implementation of their purpose,” Alek Yenigimshyan, member of the Founding Parliament, told reporters today, when he was released just a few hours ago.
Reflecting to putting down the weapons of “Sasna Tsrer” group, Alek Yenigomshyan said that it’s their decision and nobody could have made it for them and he respects that decision. “They, surely, had reasons to take that step. They didn’t put down the weapons from the very first day. In a positive sense they created a situation in the country, which hasn’t been recorded throughout past years, i.e. elimination of threat among the public. And if they put down the weapons on the first, second day, that situation hasn’t been established yet, and it wouldn’t be the same we had 2 weeks, 15 days later. Already politically and nationwide, on account of the Diaspora, we are in quite a different situation.” He stated that putting down the weapons is not simply a technical issue, many things have been implemented throughout 15 days.
Reflecting to the failed meeting of Serzh Sargsyan and Jirair Sefilian, Alek Yenigomshyan said, when he was the envoy, on July 17 he met high-ranking NSS officer, the officer met Jirair Sefilian, then entered the territory of the police precinct and met “Sasna Tsrer” group members. “On that day Jirair Sefilian introduced his proposal, everybody should share one issue, and the situation won’t end with bloodshed, secondly, from all these, our country Armenia should benefit. This means at least to conditionally accept for a while, to put aside the claim of Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation put forward by “Sasna Tsrer” group members, and there was a proposal from Jirair Sefilian to meet Serzh Sargsyan and attempt to reach both external, in particular Artsakh, and internal rather concrete, real promises around real, qualitative reforms, and not of promises thrown in the air and 1-2 practical steps. Jirair Sefilian said, if such positive results for the country are recorded or there would be willingness, promise, he’d attempt to convince the group members to withdraw from their primary claim. I repeat once again that reasonable approach was recorded from the very first day. That time reply was obtained that the so-called hostages of that time—the policemen, who were in the territory of the police precinct, were released, after which they’d talk of the rest. 4-5 days later all the policemen were released, and after that “the rest” wasn’t touched upon,” Alek Yenigomshyan said. He mentioned, a few days later Vitaly Balasanyan stated if the group member put down the weapons and surrender, Serzh sargsyan will be ready to accept Jirair Sefilian and give explanations. In his words this was another lie, which surprises nobody.
