“Iskander M” is the Type of Armament, Demonstrating which is already of Great Importance”
During the parade preparation for the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence “Iskander M” missile system was demonstrated. Although Defense Ministry doesn’t officially state on having it, Armenian experts assure, that it’s that very type of armament, from which in the whole world has also Armenia after Russia.
“I knew that and other new types of armaments have been in the arsenal of Armenia’s Armed Forces for a long time,” Expert Sergey Minasyan told “Azatutyun.”
According to Minasyan for a country like Armenia it’s an armament of strategic importance. It’s possible to hit targets of great strategic importance, from command up to energy importance.
“This type of armament has both political factor, the so-called factor of implementation of strategy of restraint, and exactly military. I consider, it’s an important factor, which may restrain Azerbaijan from resumption of wide-scale military operations on strategic level,” the expert said.
Minasyan considers, that Russian side has the decision to provide Armenia “Iskander” on account of military balance maintenance. And even if Russia also provides Azerbaijan that type of armament, it’ll occur only in case, if worsening is recorded in Armenia-Russia relations.
According to Alexander Iskandaryan, Director of Caucasus Institute, political scientist, “Iskander M” is the type of armament, demonstrating which is already of great importance.
“If the adversary gets informed about it, relations during military operations will be quite different,” Iskandaryan told “Azatutyun.”
