Syrian chaos may expand on neighboring regions: Cengiz Aktar

“Chaos may generate in Syria and around it,” Cengiz Aktar, well-known publicist, Associate Professor at Süleyman Şah University, told 168.am, reflecting to suspension of Russia-USA cooperation.

These days John Kirby, Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated that the USA suspends cooperation with Russia, directed to ceasefire maintenance in Syria.

Cengiz Aktar stated that Russia’s spontaneous activity and uncontrollable operations by some groups in Syria have led to the collapse of cooperation.

“To say that this cooperation was a lifebuoy for the Syrian conflict, will be incorrect, as regularly military operations have been calmed down in Syria, and serious clashes, new progress have been undertook. Cooperation suspension will become a serious challenge in the history of Syrian conflict, as the situation may turn into a chaos, as Russia-USA contrasts are deepening. In its turn, Turkey invaded into Syria attempting to solve a few issues, and this contradicts to both the USA and Russia. Under likewise situation it’s very difficult to agree on some issues, as all the engaged parties pursue their interests and don’t concede positions,” Aktar said.

The latter stated that Aleppo bombing continues, which facts that postures of the sides are determined. “I consider, progress of Syrian and Russian troops will continue, however, it’ll obtain a reply from the side of the militants, i.e. we may state that under current situation, this is an endless process, solution to which isn’t visible,” the Turkish analyst said.

In his words, chaos in Syria can’t but reflect on neighboring regions, in particular, when almost all neighbors of Syria are involved in Syrian conflict. “In this case we should hope, that the sides realized what destructive implications may this scale of war have on Syria and on the region. Under these conditions I don’t observe any great future for Russia-Turkey rapprochement as well, as Russia greatly continues supporting Syrian army, this instigates Turkey, which in Syria attempts to neutralize the threat to Kurds and the Islamic State. As soon as these contrasts deepen, rapprochement process is doomed to failure,” Aktar said.

Regarding the South Caucasus, the Turkish analyst considers that tension here isn’t in Turkey’s interests. “I think, even under this leadership, warnings are sent to Azerbaijan with the message to avoid military operations, however, Turkey’s leverages towards Azerbaijan are rather weak. Naturally, I don’t consider that Syrian chaos will have direct implication over the South Caucasus, however, some issues may arise under the influence of this,” Cengiz Aktar concluded.
