We don’t observe any risk, that Georgian side will act differently: Karen Karapetyan

At today’s Q&A session between the Parliament and the Cabinet RPA faction MP Shirak Torosyan touched upon the possibility of privatization of 25% share of the gas pipeline, stretching through the territory of Georgia, which provides Russian gas to Armenia.

“Georgia’s the then Government appeared with such an initiative in 2012, Azerbaijan was rather enthusiastic about that and Azerbaijani “Socar” expressed readiness to pay a serious amount for that segment of the gas pipeline, however, as a result of the noise and changed leadership in Georgia, this issue didn’t proceed. Recently Georgian PM touched upon it again. According to spread information the Azerbaijani side this time expressed readiness to purchase it all. If it develops in an unfavorable way, what will our position be?” Torosyan asked.

In reply Armenian Premier Karen Karapetyan said, “I’m not sure that the deal will be concluded very soon, however, even in case of the deal I don’t observe a risk. As a 25% shareholder of the pipeline providing transit, we don’t observe any risk, that the Georgian side will behave not in accordance with the agreement.”
