The European Union Delegation to Armenia and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) have signed a Contract to the EUR 2 million grant that marks the beginning of a three-year project aimed at facilitating development of the civil society sector in Armenia.
“For us Armenia’s independence in Diaspora has been a crucial victory, gift, realization of a dream, for which maybe we, as individuals, at that moment failed to have a big investment, however, we’ve always lived with the realization of supporting this newly-born country to stand on its feet not only in the field of culture, but also as an independent, sovereign democratic state.”
American-Armenian rock musician, founder and soloist of “System of a Down” group Serj Tankian said via Skype that the Diaspora-Armenians are quite separated from Armenia’s economic, political life. “The Diaspora-Armenians do have sufficient understanding on the events in Armenia,” Tankian said.
President Sargsyan spoke also about the tasks before the AGBU and noted that he would love to see the Armenian General Benevolent Union much more Armenia-centered which will benefit the Union and all its beneficiaries alike.
