Russia’s ambassador to Turkey shot in Ankara
Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, was shot Monday at an art exhibition in Ankara, Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency reported.
Karlov was giving a speech at the opening ceremony of a photo exhibit when an assailant opened fire, the news agency said.
The ambassador began his diplomatic career in 1976 and has been the envoy to Turkey since 2013, according to a profile on the website for the Russian Embassy in Ankara.
Police cars quickly swarmed the scene after the shooting. Authorities haven’t said who they believe was responsible for the attack.
