Turks will once again “let down” Russians: Levon Shirinyan
Political scientist Levon Shirinyan stated prior to publication of the U.S. presidential election results, when Hillary Clinton wins in the USA, she will squeeze Russian lemon until the end. “If she comes to power, she will trample Russia under the feet of the USA both financially and technologically. Russia will lose this activeness. That’s why Armenians living in the USA should put everything aside and vote for Clinton. The Russian bear will have an occupation to lick its paws in the fatherland and not extend its claws to this territory,” he said stressing that Russia can’t interfere with issues of Armenia and Karabakh.
168.am contacted the political scientist to clarify what implication will Trump’s election and his statements on shifting on sanctions against Russia will have in the region, and on Armenia and Karabakh issue in particular.
“I said that Russians will have the freedom of activity if the U.S. doesn’t proceed with the line of Democrats, however, Trump basically continues that line, i.e. there will be no concessions, and other statements on improvement of relations and etc. are ordinary talks. Trump also stated if Russia manifests a different behavior, they’ll be more cruel, than Clinton would have been. My concerns are being eliminated, however, let’s wait for January 20,” the political scientist said, adding that Republicans will manifest the same political line.
According to him the team of Republicans is such that concessions anticipated by Russians won’t be recorded, although he doesn’t exclude that threat, “Democrats warned through different statements if Republicans pursue pro-Russian policy, they’ll launch impeachment. It would be proper that the U.S. state interests didn’t recognize the expression “Russia’s zones of influence.” Under these conditions for Russia we’ll become an extremely desired state, which doesn’t oppose to the interests of the U.S.”
Regarding Armenia the political scientist stressed if the 5th column in Armenia doesn’t protect foreign interests, we’ll reach to the point that Russia’s activeness was restricted. “My concern is that. As soon as Russia’s activeness is restricted in our region, we’ll become allies and rather desired for Russia. We should act the way our interests dictate,” he said.
According to the political scientist in this period Armenia is obliged to follow the developments and change the direction to Iran. “Rapprochement with Iran will provide us security, all those intending to concede territories, will be buried. Length of the border of the two statehoods of the Armenian side is of paramount importance to Iran. It’ll also provide all chances for economic and cultural progress. Simply the patient should have the desire to get well.”
Levon Shirinyan also stated that “his words don’t contain anti-Russian elements,” they derive from Armenia’s state interests. He also added, “Harsh attempts on rapprochement with Turkey won’t save Russians as well. Russians will be once again “let down” by Turks. These two countries attempt to unite through blackmail, but they won’t.”
