Former Russian State Duma lawmaker Denis Voronenkov gunned down in Kiev
Former Russian lawmaker of the State Duma Denis Voronenkov was shot dead in a firefight in Kiev, Ukraine, a senior law enforcement official Andrey Krishchenko said.
“About 40 minutes ago a shootout took place near the entrance of the Premier Palace hotel. One person has been killed, two others wounded. They have been hospitalized.
The identity of the deceased is already known, he is a Russian political, former State Duma MP. Yes, I confirm, it is Denis Voronenkov,” he said.
He said the police consider the possibility that the shooting was a hit. Voronenkov and his wife, Maria Maksakova, who is also a former Russian lawmaker, left Russia for Ukraine in October 2016 after the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office refused to launch a probe against his alleged involvement in an illegal property seizure in Moscow.
