US Representative says Armenian Genocide should be recognized once and for all

The fact of Armenian Genocide should be recognized once and for all, U.S. Representative David Trott, who introduced a new draft law recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide and prevention of new genocides in the House of Representatives, told Voice of America.

According to the Representative, similar drafts have been submitted to the Congress in the past as well, but were unable to be supported by the majority. “These bills never reached the president’s table for signing.

Being a senator, Obama recognized the Armenian Genocide, but, for some reasons, he changed his position as a president”, he said. Speaking about the Armenian Genocide recognition, Co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Rep. Frank Pallone noted that the “Medz Yeghern” is known and recognized globally today more than ever.

“We are determined to achieve recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Congress. I do not know when this will happen, but I do not doubt that it is inevitable. I will continue to support this process,” he said.

The Rep. also recalled that members of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, several dozens of congressmen have sent a letter to the White House, urging President Donald Trump to recognize the Armenian Genocide with a special statement on April 24, following the example of President Ronald Reagan, since it’s possible to prevent future genocides by recognizing and condemning the genocides of the past.

“The more we voice about genocides, be it the Armenian Genocide or other genocides, the less are chances that they will reoccur.”
