Armenia’s foreign policy will maintain its multi-vector nature, where predictability is important: Areshev
“In Armenia-Russia relations predictability, sufficient level of mutual trust and high-level political consultations will be important,” Andrey Areshev, Expert at the Strategic Culture Foundation, political scientist, told reporters, reflecting to results of parliamentary elections held in Armenia.
Areshev positively assessed general background of elections. In his words, work of RPA on previous mistakes regarding obtained results had a big role, as a result of which RPA had a considerable result. According to Russian analyst here not only appointment of the PM, without whom such a result wouldn’t be recorded, as it’s clear that whole responsibility of pre-election campaign was on the PM.
“I’d like to state on Armenia’s Electoral Code reforms and particularly on such a new process, which was named as ‘preferential voting system’. Elections are held by proportional order, however de facto we deal with some proportional component, we know there are polling stations, and as much as I understand, the very voting in favor of exact people seriously contributed to such victory of the leading Republican party.
RPA, in some sense, also “Tsarukyan” alliance remain parties with most resources and they have some opportunities to have an effect on cast votes. Currently it’s important what a crucial role work of the new parliament will have, also from the perspective of Armenia-Russia relations, as responsibility of solution of Armenia’s crucial domestic and foreign policies will pass on to the parliament, that work of this body was professional, educated, that it complied with social demands from the perspective of strengthening Armenia-Russia relations,” Areshev said.
Reflecting to results recorded by pro-Western powers, Russian analyst said Free Democrats and Yelk bloc were Western, however, he considers lists of other political parties have been curiously developed.
“We can remember a power which failed—ORO, they didn’t receive considerable votes, however, two out of three are US citizens, i.e. here, I think we should touch upon the point that Armenia’s foreign policy, irrespective of the fact that in the military-political field cooperation with Russia was stressed, Armenia is a EEU member, it’ll maintain its multi-vector nature and the agreement initialed between Yerevan and Brussels, prove this approach. In this case predictability, sufficient level of mutual trust and high-level political consultations are important,” Andrey Areshev said.
