“Paragraphs of this important document have been agreed between Armenia and the EU”

The Armenia-European Union comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement will be ready for signing in autumn of 2017, Ambassador Piotr Switalski, head of the EU delegation to Armenia, told reporters on May 8.

“In January of 2017, when I was again meeting with you here, I mentioned that 2017 will be a year full of signicant events in terms of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union. And now I am very happy that the comprehensive and expanded partnership document has been initialed,” Switalski said.

He added that currently EU experts are working on the technical verication of the document. The Ambassador expressed hope that the document will be ready for signing in autumn.

“This is the most ambitious agreements between the European Union and a Eurasian Economic Union member country,” the Ambassador said. At the same time, Switalski emphasized that the most important part is implementing the provisions of the agreement.

“The agreement opens wide opportunities for cooperation between Armenia and the EU. As to how these opportunities will be used, depends on us. Therefore, we – as the EU delegation in Armenia, are planning to use this agreement correctly,” he said.

Armenia and the European Union have also agreed the document called ‘Prospects of Cooperation’. “I can say that the paragraphs of this important document have been agreed between Armenia and the EU.

Once again Armenia is playing an important part, because it is the only Eastern Partnership country which has negotiated with the EU over a new document which is called ‘Prospects of Cooperation,” the Ambassador said.

The said he hopes Armenia and the EU will soon sign it. “On my behalf I can say the negotiations have passed productively in a very constructive environment. This all inspires hope for realizing the document’s provisions in the future,” he said.
