Several medical facilities to be merged with military hospitals in Armenia: Levon Altunyan

The healthcare ministry will localize and introduce 200 guidelines in NovemberDecember, which will first of all be aimed at increasing healthcare level in provinces, Levon Altunyan, healthcare minister of Armenia, told a press conference.

“As you know we are actively working in the direction of introducing clinical guidelines and protocols. This is a project which is designed for the upcoming 5 years, because the total amount of the guidelines is around 1000, while with Armenia’s potential we will be able to translate, localize and introduce around 200 yearly.

We decided that first of all we need to localize the guidelines which are important for healthcare in provinces, in order to bring the province’s healthcare level to the level of Yerevan’s healthcare,” he said.

The healthcare ministry’s upcoming programs also include infrastructure reforms, which imply merging of several medical facilities. “Several medical institutions will be merged with military hospitals, which will improve healthcare level in provinces. We will re-equip several hospitals, several will simply be terminated, and instead we will train our personnel and develop palliative care and elderly care centers,” he said, adding this will develop medical tourism, in addition to creating new services in the domestic market.
