Crowded Cannes in festive mood: Exclusive from Cannes

70th jubilee edition of Cannes has been launched at Côte d’Azur gathering world cinematography giants here. The feeling of cinema fete, felt in the air, pleasantly and successfully makes forget after-effects of tiring road, however, this mood has less probability to last long if you are here to work.

The first thing the reporter appeared here (if you are a reporter) is visiting accreditation center, where as it turned out later, a surprise was awaited—a blue badge for reporters.

To have access to Palais De Festival it’s necessary to stand in a line, which for different hours of the day will take from 15 minutes to half an hour.

Having an international festival in your homeland at least with kind envy you record that you deal with a giant, stable in the life of world cinematography long ago.

It’s here in Palais De Festival that the most important movie events are taking place, where almost all structural facilities of the festival are located.

Any information related to the festival life is available here, which we did, firstly clarifying programs for the season of 2017.

In the main program—Compétition, which is adopted to consider the most authoritative competition of the festival, 18 films have been introduced. The President of the Jury this year is flamboyant icon of Spanish cinema Pedro Almodóvar. Maren Ade, Fan Bingbing, park Chan-Wook, Will Smith, Agnès Jaoui, Paolo Sorrentino and Gabriel Yared are among the Jury.

Number of films involved in Un Certain Regard this year exceeds 20. In this program Festival participants, as well as accredited reporters have the opportunity to watch the included films in well-known Debussy Theater, and the Jury this year is headed by Uma Thurman.

Films involved in Hors Compétition are available at the Grand Theatre Lumière.

15 films involved in Cinéfondation introduce works of various cinema schools, which are available only in Buñuel Theatre.

Short films also have their worthy place. Films involved here are available to watch in two theaters.

In Cannes Classics samples of classic movie created in various years, as well as footages about prominent figures of cinematography are involved.

Films of production of different countries are screened in the world film program. During each day of Festival de Cannes each country participating in the program has the right to introduce national movie of local production.

As we succeeded to clarify on the site, here, in Cannes Cinéma de la Plage is of high interest, which provides the guests the opportunity to enjoy films of classics on the big screen ever taking part in this prestigious Festival.

After getting acknowledged with all details, as accredited reps of media outlets, we attempt to find the media center, located on the third floor of Palais De Festival.

Here all opportunities are provided for productive journalistic work, free and high-speed Wi-Fi, technical support, if such help is needed, laptops and, of course, black coffee without sugar.

It can be stated that accredited reporters spend most time here. The hall is wide, however, places meant for work are almost always busy. If you’re lucky, you can sit next to a working table, if not, the view is like this.

On the first working day at Cannes we couldn’t miss the opportunity of visiting the Armenian pavilion—Village International/Pantiero N226.

Already tomorrow members of delegation arrived from Armenia will make their attempts to succeed at Festival de Cannes—“Aurora’s sunrise” of Bars Media, Sergo Ustyan’s “Exchange” and Artur Sukiasyan’s “The Wounded City”.

Wishing good luck members of the Armenian delegation, it should be stated that 168.am will cover the whole period from Armenian pavilion.

Returning to the jubilee Festival, it should be noted that this year it’s carried out under enhanced security measures undertaken by French authorities.

Police is everywhere in streets of Cannes. Under more enhanced conditions the Festival center, adjacent territories are guarded as well.

Only the accredited have access to main Festival center with a badge confirming it.

The Police group guarding Palais De Festival examines each visitor, who should pass from the security zone.

We ended the first working day at Cannes with irresistible desire to eat something tasty, as well as with the happy idea of getting to the restrooms as soon as possible.

The reportage about the Armenian pavilion in Cannes Film Market is ahead.
