Fines for dumping garbage to be toughened in Armenia
Fines for dumping garbage will be toughened in Armenia, Vache Terteryan, First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development, Chairman of ‘Clean Armenia’ initiative’s interagency commission, told a press conference in Armenpress, adding that the administration should be more practical.
“The person who will violate will be punished on the spot, as severe as possible. People throw from cars cigarettes, bottles, boxes, bags full of household garbage. This must be eliminated. Moreover, there are also poor landfills. We need to carry out serious works, we need to create a dense network of waste bins so that the citizen will have a place to dump the garbage,” Vache Terteryan said.
Today the mechanism to fine for dumping garbage in undesignated places exists, however, according to the Deputy Minister, this is less effective. He said legislative reforms will be made soon and the inspectors institute will be introduced.
They will record the violations. Terteryan said there is no need to fund a guilty, the entire system must work to reveal the shortcomings and improve them. A serious propaganda is expected to be carried out within the frames of ‘Clean Armenia’ initiative. He also informed that they are going to develop mechanisms to gradually switch from polyethylene packaging to paper packaging.
