Charles and Nicolas Aznavour visit Tatev Monastery

On the sidelines of the Aurora humanitarian initiative, the legendary singer and National Hero of Armenia Charles Aznavour, who is currently in Armenia, visited the Tatev Monastery Complex on May 31, the IDeA informed.

The legendary singer was accompanied by his son, Nicolas Aznavour, and friends and colleagues. Aznavour’s first stop was the Halidzor station of the Wings of Tatev ropeway, where IDeA CEO Edgar Manukyan and director of the ropeway Vahe Vaghdasaryan welcomed him.

Manukyan briefed Aznavour and the guests on the history of constructing the Wings of Tatev, the programs of Tatev’s Rebirth Fund, which have already significantly changed the life in the Tatev region. From an observation point near the Tatev Home restaurant, the maestro and his son viewed the nature of Syunik. During the entire travel, the singer didn’t let go of his camera – always trying to take beautiful shots.

They later traveled to the Tatev Monastery Complex, where abbot Michael Gevorgyan, locals and tourists were waiting. Nicolas Aznavour was baptized in the St. Peter and Paul Church, where the ceremony was accompanied by performances of the Tatev Monastery Choir. “I am very proud that my son Nicolas decided to be baptized in Armenia. My parents would’ve been so proud to know that my two sons – Misha and Nicolas, have been baptized here in Armenia, being faithful to their roots”, Charles Aznavour said.

“I was born in France, studied in Switzerland and Canada, but the older I get the stronger I am tied to my Armenian roots. Talking to my father and aunt, listening to their stories, I returned to my family’s roots. I’ve started learning Armenian. After this I felt that I want to be baptized in Armenia,” Nicolas Aznavour said. He said being baptized in the Tatev Monastery is one of the most unforgettable moments of his life.
