Armenia ranked 112th in Global Peace Index

Armenia is ranked 112th in the Global Peace Index, according to the research published by the Institute for Economics and Peace on June 1 which analyzes the situation of 163 countries where 99.7% of the population of the planet lives, reports TASS.

The GPI explores factors such as level of public unity, respect of human rights, political and economic stability, level of terror threat and the country’s participation in military operations.

According to the published data, 93 countries improved their positions while 68 deteriorated. The GPI is being published in the past 11 years. This year for already 9th times Iceland is leading as the most peaceful country in the world.

It is joined at the top of the index by New Zealand, Portugal, Austria, and Denmark, all of which were ranked highly in the 2016 GPI. There was also very little change at the bottom of the index.

Syria remains the least peaceful country in the world, followed by Afghanistan (162), Iraq (161), South Sudan (160), and Yemen (159). Europe remains the most peaceful region in the world, with eight of the ten most peaceful countries coming from this region. Russia’s position didn’t change compared to last year, it is ranked 151. Azerbaijan is ranked 132nd, and Iran is in 129 position. US is 114 in the list.
