“Ban our foreign minister from flying however much you like, but from now on, let’s see how your flights will land in Turkey,” President Erdogan said at a rally in Istanbul as quoted by BBC. Cavusoglu also warned Turkey would impose heavy sanctions if his visit were blocked.
But, the statement said, “It is not possible to be neutral on the issue of genocide, and attempting to do so merely supports the modern propaganda of the Turkish government.”
“It seemed a year ago the situation over Iran was going for improvement, but now, it seems everything is changing back. The US is again speaking about sanctions against Iran. I’m not saying this will lead to war, but the fact that uncertainty is being created over Iran again is obvious. Iran is an important partner for Armenia, and I think Iran will look towards the EEU through Armenia,” he said.
“Today, no one can deny that Russia is a security supplier for Armenia, Russia will never allow Armenia to be harmed or attacked. If anyone attacks Armenia, Russia will take part in defending Armenia, this is absolutely obvious,” he said.
According to him, if Russia succeeds in having a predictable and understandable Turkey, it can also stem from Armenia’s interests. At the same time the Minister said the Armenian people have sad memories from the past, when the Soviet leaderships signed various agreements with the Turkish authorities.
“Not only has Turkey blockaded Armenia by shutting down the railways and state border, which in our opinion is an anachronism in the 21st century, but it has also adopted a pro-Azerbaijani stance over the Nagorno Karabakh issue,” Sargsyan said.
“Armenia made a quite acknowledged decision, very well assessing the economic, nancial aspects of membership to the EEU, that from an economic point of view the membership to that structure is more appropriate, than signing a free trade agreement with the EU,” the Minister said.
He mentioned that Erdogan must obey the laws, and Chancellor Merkel must tell him this. The Turkish foreign minister’s event, which was scheduled to take place in Hamburg’s Plaza Event Center, was cancelled, and the FM was forced to deliver a speech in the residence of the Turkish consul.
Armenia is one of the CSTO founding members and always takes very seriously that integration union. We really believe that this organization can have a worthy place in the international relations system”, he said. The minster mentioned that nevertheless there are still issues in the CSTO.
