I continued my mission in Brussels – Armen Ashotyan

I continued my mission in Brussels by meeting my colleagues from European Parliament. I met counterpart from EP, co-chair of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Mr Sajjad Haider Karim, Co-chair of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly Mrs Rebecca Harms and Vice-president of European parliament Mrs Heida Hautala, Armen Ashotyan wrote in his Facebook statement.

I kept them posted about recent transition of the power in Armenia and the current developments. I underscored the fact that this non-violent and strictly constitutional shift reflected political will and wisdom of Armenian former leadership towards vox populi and demand for changes.

Under new circumstances Republican party of Armenia is the only parliamentary opposition, while new government is composed of all other parliamentary political groups and factions. Armenian Constitution provides necessary solutions for political risk-management and separation of powers towards further democratisation and state building.

We discussed the future of Armenia-EU relations and importance of its parliamentary dimension. We scheduled next PCC meeting for autumn and exchanged views to level-up partnership framework. We emphasised the necessity of smooth and fast ratification of CEPA to reinforce broader reforms agenda and European assistance to Armenia.

We touched the role of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly in Eastern Partnership Area and appropriate involvement of Armenian delegation in preparations and success of forthcoming Plenary session in Brussels.

We unanimously agreed that it’s of vital importance to contribute and consolidate security and stability in the region of South Caucasus.
