Armenian PM says he likes parliamentary system of governance

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says he likes the model of parliamentary system of governance.

“The parliamentary system still needs to work. But according to our Constitution, now I am introducing the government’s Action Plan, and a very broad discussion is taking place. If now I had not had these occasions and was a president with the previous powers, I would not endure that status. Being a public figure, I need to be in such platforms and listen to various opinions. These discussions are very important, especially when we are developing as a democratic country”, the PM said during the parliamentary debates of the government’s Action Plan, in response to My Faction faction MP Sasun Mikayelyan’s question.

He highlighted that currently the Parliament is conducting a very important controlling role.

“One of the main roles of the Parliament is to really carry out supervision, and the PM must be the most interested in this in order for the government’s activity to be more effective. I like this dialogue a lot. I like that ministers from time to time should attend the closed format sessions of both the opposition and ruling factions and answer to very tough, undesirable questions”, Pashinyan added.
