We should follow the truth and be honest in Amulsar issue, says Pashinyan

In order to make a decision on the Amulsar issue Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says it’s necessary to de facto and de jure get a response to one question – whether the operation of the mine is an ecological disaster or not. Pashinyan highlights following the truth on this issue to the end.

At a press conference in Los Angeles, the PM was asked if there is a final decision on the Amulsar issue and if yes, what it is. “My biggest misfortune on this issue is that all already have their point of view regardless of everything. Some of them state that Amulsar is a mountain, regardless of everything, it should remain as a mountain, and the other side states that Amulsar should operate even if the world collapses. But I state another thing: I say that we should be honest with the Armenian community and the international community on this matter and should follow the truth to the end. Now, whether its operation is an ecological disaster or not. I must get the response of this question de jure and de facto”, the PM said, adding that there will be people who will react whether this is not clear. According to the PM, no, this is not clear.

“Yes, I understand that there are problems. I say one thing that we should be honest. This is a very important issue, both in economic, ecological and all terms. I have never put a task to open or not to open the mine. I have said that we should follow the truth to the end. I told the representatives of Lydian Armenia as well that if it turns out that it is possible to operate the mine with the standards they mention, I will assist them, but if it’s impossible, my support to them is ruled out”, the PM added.

“It’s necessary to make an informed decision. I do not agree with the view that whose pressure is strong, the government should make a decision under it. I have never acted under pressure and will not act regardless of everything. My task, position is clear – we should be honest with the Armenian and the international community in this issue. And in order to be honest we should follow the truth to the end”, Pashinyan said.

He stated that there is no final decision yet, adding that they do not have a ground de jure to ban the operation of the mine.
