It’s Genocide: George Clooney

“I was grown up in a period, when in 60-70s serious developments were taking place in the USA regarding civil rights, women’s rights movement. If you are my coeval, you bear responsibility for being engaged. When you see this, you cannot just simply ignore and turn it back. I should say that the glory is suffocation when are constantly followed by the cameras. I decided that these cameras should follow not only me, but we should raise our concern on what happened there with the help of these cameras,” George Clooney, famous actor, said at “Against the Crime of Genocide” second Global Forum.

He stressed as much you deepen on the topic of Genocide, as much time should be contributed, and brought an example from his life,

“I gave edifice in the UNO Security Council, linked to the word ‘Genocide.’ You use the word ‘Genocide,’ which obliges the UNO to act pursuant the law. It was a lasting and hard struggle to call it as it is. All this is complicated, as we live in a complicated world, however, I think, the most crucial factor, to which we repeatedly turn to, is that we can’t deny the occurrence. If somebody attempts to eliminate a human race, culture, you can’t return it, and it’s Genocide, there no other variant,” he said.

Touching upon “Against the Crime of Genocide” Global forum, the famous actor stated what’s presently going on has two meanings,

“Firstly, we should look back and not forget that this is a part of Armenia’s history, it’s also a part of the world’s history, it’s not the pain of one nation only. And secondly, we should look ahead.”

To the observation that Genocide has been a topic for numerous Hollywood movies, however, the audience seems to get used to violence and is becoming indifferent, he reflected,

“I can say that 24-hour news cycle forms an insensitive audience, because that news becomes common. When you hear about 1 million refugees, it is just a number; it is more effective when a little boy is found dead washed ashore. In this case people find time to focus on this issue, and then they realize that the UN has not done enough for the refugee crisis. The way we respond to the refugee crisis is horrible.

I believe, we are losing our vision of humanity, while introducing history of immense numbers. In movie production they shouldn’t talk of 6 million Jews only, which were massacred, but that of a person, who tried to save lives of a few people. We shouldn’t speak of big numbers, but of an exact case.

If we turn on the TV in the US, no time is allocated to Syrian refugees, Boko Haram, sometimes they touch upon the Islamic State, as their history is well-known, however, the reality is as follows: you turn on CNN, see an empty tribune, and you wait for Donald Trump to speak. That period, while waiting for Donald Trump, why don’t we devote it to the story of the family, which struggles to escape from Aleppo? They leave, because they’re dying. So that, I hope, TV and movie personalities should centralize on more global issues, than elections.”
