Two Reasons

“The reason why Armenia voted against the resolution on Crimea at the UN General Assembly was highly connected with the NKR conflict and the influence of Russia,” told our reporter an expert of the Global Insight analytic center Lilit Gevorgyan. “Armenia is considered as a satellite state of Russia and indeed it is no news for Europe and US that Armenia is not a very independent state and doesn’t have a free foreign policy,” she said. According to the analyst, in this case it is easier for the Armenian president to give an explanation because Armenia has a similar attitude in regards to the NKR conflict. Nonetheless, in Gevorgyan’s opinion, supporting the NKR conflict resolution is only one of Armenia’s incentives. She is not sure that Russia would show a similar approach to NKR under the current tense circumstances.
