New Loans for Construction of a New Landfill in Nubarashen

The issue of “Yerevan solid waste project” loan agreement signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) 11 December 2015 has been submitted to RA Government for approval. It’s anticipated that EBRD will allocate EUR 8 million loan to the Republic of Armenia.

According to the corroboration, the program tends to improve the system of solid wastes in the capital of Armenia. In particular, construction of a new landfill, as well as purchase of specialized vehicles and equipment, isolation of existent landfill is anticipated. The new landfill, to be located next to the existent one in Nubarashen, will reduce unfavorable impact of the existent non-sanitary landfill on environment, public health and climate.

Cost of the program comprises EUR 24 million, from which EUR 8 million loan from EBRD, EUR 8 million loan from European Investment Bank (EIB) and EUR 8 million grant is anticipated to engage through EU Neighborhood investment tool.

The executive will discuss the issue of approval of enrolling another EUR 8 million for the same program from European Investment Bank at February 3 session.
