Russians to Possess Armenia’s Air as well

NA Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs yesterday approved to involve the issue of the agreement on “Creating a united regional air defense system in the Caucasian collective security region between the Republic of Armenia and Russian Federation” in the agenda.

Undoubtedly, the agreement will be concluded in near future by the National Assembly as well. Upon this agreement a united space will be created in air defense system with unified coordinating body and in that united space liability of making decisions, naturally, will be provided to Russia.

“Coordination is implemented by the commander of Russian Aerospace Defense Forces,” said Ara Nazaryan, RA Deputy Defense Minister, adding that Armenia’s respective bodies will have the liability to make decisions only regarding local issues, “As for management of joint operations of united system troops of air defense of a separate region of collective security, it’s being implemented by head of Armenia’s Air Defense Force.”

The reality, that after operations of the agreement in making decision on air defense Armenia’s respective bodies will be coordinated by the abovementioned military departments of Russia. And this means that “separate region of collective security” mentioned by the Deputy Minister is simply an attempt to blur the reality, as total coordination of those forces will be implemented by Russian army.

Thus, while the society continues to raise questions regarding support provided to Armenia in the field of security, slightly said, non-allied behavior, and pro-Azerbaijani behavior of Russia during the April war, and generally vassal nature of Armenia-Russia relations, Armenia’s authorities, up to now, only at the level of Parliamentary commission, of course, approves the agreement of Armenia’s withdrawal of “air sovereignty” to Russia.

Russia, which completely manages almost all strategic and non-strategic objects and substructures in Armenia, thus, in near future, will get the right to manage Armenia’s “air” or air defense.

And passing on any right referring to Armenia’s defense to Russia means to legally entitle Russia not only to defend, but if necessary, threaten to Armenia’s air defense. The April four-day war is a vivid proof of it.

This means provide the right of make decisions to Russia in cases when, for instance, Azerbaijani or Turkish planes, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and projectiles will be directed to Armenia. In its turn, this means, if Aliyev states that he’s engaging with EEU before shelling Armenia, then Russian militants responsible for Armenia’s air defense may be “asleep” on that day.
